Fireworks, fresh water, million-dollar sunsets, sparklers, and campfires are just a few of the things that make the 4th of July in northern Michigan so special. It’s a time for family, fun, and relaxation all while surrounded by gorgeous scenery. A variety of Fourth of July celebrations such as parades, craft shows, and fireworks displays will take place across northern Michigan throughout the long weekend, starting July 1st. The 90th annual Traverse City Cherry Festival—one of the the largest summer festivals in Northern Michigan—begins July 2nd, offering a slew of fun, family entertainment.

The Village of Bay Harbor’s fireworks display, the first in the Petoskey area, kicks off Sunday July 3rd with their annual fireworks show.  Additionally, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Boyne City and Traverse City offer a host of different family oriented events throughout the long weekend .

Boyne City Arts & Crafts Show, Parade, and Fireworks


Each year, the Boyne City Chamber of Commerce celebrates Independence Day with its 4th of July Festival held at Veterans Memorial Park on beautiful Lake Charlevoix.

Weekend festivities begin Friday, July 1st with Boyne City’s Stroll the Streets. Enjoy live music, dinner, and ice cream while listening to live music and browsing downtown Boyne City’s unique shops and boutiques.

  • Friday, July 1st: 6 – 9 p.m. – Boyne City Stroll the Streets.
  • Sunday, July 3rd: Waterside Arts & Crafts Show, All-Day Event
  • Monday, July 4th: Holiday Festival and Parade
  • Monday July 4th: Dusk – Boyne City Fireworks Display over Lake Charlevoix

Bay Harbor 4th of July Parade and Fireworks

Bay Harbor, situated on beautiful Little Traverse Bay between Petoskey and Charlevoix, will have it’s 2016 Independence Day Fireworks celebration on July 3rd, allowing fireworks enthusiasts the opportunity to view another display the following night in Petoskey, Boyne City, or Harbor Springs.

Families looking to try something new and unique should head down to Bay Harbor’s Independence Day Parade on Main Street which is billed as the most “unique Fourth of July parade in northern Michigan” this celebration captivates both children and adults allowing for a perfect family outing.

  • Sunday, July 3rd: 7:30pm to 10pm – The Village of Bay Harbor’s 2016 Fireworks Celebration
  • Monday July 4th: 11:00am – The Village of Bay Harbor’s 4th of July Parade on Main Street.

Harbor Springs Independence Day Festivities

On Saturday, July 2nd, The Harbor Springs Chamber of Commerce has teamed up once again with the PetoskeyBrewing Company to offer adults 21 years of age and over the opportunity to enjoy a variety of Michigan Brewed Craft Beers while overlooking Little Traverse Bay. For non-beer drinkers, a handful of select wines will be available from some of northern Michigan’s premier vineyards.
On July 4th, be sure to arrive just before dusk to claim your spot for watching Harbor Springs 2016 fireworks display. Hint: be sure to watch across Little Traverse Bay for Petoskey’s fireworks show, as well.

4th of July Celebrations in Petoskey

The Petoskey Area Stars and Stripes Volunteer Committee has once again put together a day of celebration throughout Petoskey on the Fourth of July. At 6:00pm on Monday, July 4th, 2016, Petoskey’s annual Independence Day parade kicks off at Petoskey High School, making it’s way through downtown Petoskey where it will end at Bayfront Park. Music, food, and other entertainment will continue up until dusk when Petoskey’s fireworks show begins.

Traverse City Cherry Festival and 4th of July Festivities

Northern Michigan 4th of July Cherry FestivalThe 90th annual Cherry Festival kicks off Saturday July 2nd, 2016 bringing hundreds of families “up north” to Traverse City from southern Michigan, as well as vacationers from all across the country. The Blue Angels are back again as part of the Cherry Festival’s air show the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd.

The festival lasts through July 9th, allowing the opportunity for families vacationing in the Petoskey Area (such as guests of Hotel Walloon) and other northern Michigan destinations to take a day trip down to Traverse City to enjoy the food, music, entertainment, carnival rides, and cherries.

If you are in Traverse City on Monday, July 4th, be sure to catch the fireworks display on west Grand Traverse Bay.
