There are 3 weeks left until the start of fall! Last Monday, we shared Fall Color Tour Part II and highlighted the Tri County Tour in the Petoskey area.
Pick your favorite fall color tour that is shared during this five-week color tour series, book a stay at Hotel Walloon and come for a long weekend to enjoy the natural beauty of northern Michigan! At the end of a long day of sightseeing, head back to Hotel Walloon for the perfect night of relaxation in front of our massive stone fireplace, sip some wine and indulge with hors d’ouevres provided by the Walloon Lake Inn.
This week, read about 2 perfect ways to see Mackinac Island in the fall.
Mackinac Island Fall Color Bike Tours
One of the best ways to see the sights of Mackinac Island is to rent a bike on Main Street and pedal around the island. M185, the highway that circles the island, is 8.004 miles long and is perfectly paved to make this a great leisurely activity. While biking around the island, enjoy the fall leaves as they change color, while also admiring the historic homes and beautiful Great Lakes. There are a few stops to make as your circle your way along the island’s coast, admiring the fall foliage.
Take a short hike up 212 stairs to the top of Arch Rock! Once reaching the top of your climb, look out over Mackinac Island to observe northern Michigan leaves changing color. This stop allows for magnificent views of the autumn leaves and also allows for wonderful views of Lake Huron, stretching as far as the eye can see.
Don’t peddle too fast or you just might miss this little eatery along your M185 fall color tour. Cannonball Inn & Catering is perfect for a quick snack along your bike ride. Hop off your bike, stretch your legs and eat a sweet treat before continuing on to see the fall scenery of Mackinac Island.
Keep peddling and take time to stop along the way, admiring the leaves changing color, as some of them have already fallen on the ground. Don’t forget to take pictures of your trip to remember this fun fall activity in Northern Michigan!
Mackinac Island Fall Color Horseback Riding Tours
A second way to enjoy a northern Michigan fall color tour in a unique way would be to try horseback riding around Mackinac Island! Cindy’s Riding Stable will provide a tour guide to take you and your party around the different trails on Mackinac Island. This is the perfect way to try something new! Also, it will allow you to see parts of Mackinac Island that you would not otherwise see. Enjoy all the fall colors and leaves changing as you experience the horseback riding trails on Mackinac.
After a few hours of exploring the island, wander Main Street for a savory treat and a memento or two to take home!
