Lighting of the Village of Walloon
November 9th, 2016
Walloon Lake, MI – The Village of Walloon is excited to announce its 4th Annual Lighting of the Village taking place on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 6 PM EST. Visit the Village of Walloon on November 25th for an evening of holiday cheer as the holiday lights are turned on for the first time this winter season.
The Lighting of the Village of Walloon is only one of the many things happening in the Village this winter that you do not want to miss out on! The Village Green Park, located next to Barrel Back restaurant, will be transformed into an ice skating rink for the duration of the winter. Ice skates will be available at Tommy’s, under the Barrel Back, free of charge for all who want to take advantage of the rink. Tommy’s will also be renting cross country skis and snowshoes accessible for winter sports enthusiasts to adventure on the Melrose Township Nature Trail.
In 2015, the snowmobile trail that is part of the larger trail system from lower Michigan was brought into the Village of Walloon. The trail cuts east to US131, then connects to the existing Petoskey trail system. From the Village of Walloon, snowmobilers can now reach as far north as Mackinaw City and as far south as Grand Rapids. This trail includes a newly constructed twenty-foot bridge that crosses the Bear River as well as other roadway improvements that were completed in 2015. This snowmobile trail is perfect for snowmobilers to drive right up to Barrel Back’s restaurant for a delicious and warm break from the cold.
