Spring Activities

Spring is a great time of year to explore Northern Michigan. Trails like the North Country Trail, Wildwood Harbor Preserve and North Shore Preserve wind their way through Northern Michigan and around Walloon Lake. This time of year the trails are surrounded with beautiful wild Trilliums and Forget Me Nots as nature begins to recover from the cold winter season.

The Little Traverse Wheelway bike path is another great attraction for spring visitors that runs through Charlevoix, Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Alanson. If you seek a more exciting way to enjoy spring time in Northern Michigan, go zip lining at Boyne Mountain, Boyne Highlands or at Wildwood Rush in Boyne City!

Springtime also marks the beginning of Morel Mushroom season. Hotel Walloon is just miles away from some of the best mushrooming in Michigan. People come from all over to hunt for the infamous morel, Boyne City even hosts the Mushroom Festival in May to honor the areas mushroom season.

Spring is a great time of year to enjoy fishing on one of the many rivers surrounding Hotel Walloon, to name a few the Bear River, Sturgeon River and Jordan River. For the fishing enthusiasts, Hotel Walloon sits on a great lake for perch, bass, walleye and pike. There is a reason Ernest Hemmingway said “It’s the great northern air. Absolutely the best trout fishing in the country. No exaggeration.”
